As We Are Annual Art Awards
Nulsen Disability Services is the proud principal partner of the As We Are Art Awards Exhibition.
As We Are is a state-wide annual art award and exhibition, open to all West Australian artists with intellectual disability. It is the only event of its kind in Western Australia.
Our support spans more than two decades, and in 2023, the As We Are Art Awards Exhibition showcased 177 artists and artworks.
As We Are was initiated in 2002 as a one-off art award and exhibition by Rosalind Lewis from Citizen Advocacy Perth West. Since the resounding success of that first year, the event has grown to become a prestigious and significant yearly event on the WA arts calendar.
As We Are’s goal is “Empowering Artists with Intellectual Disability”.
As We Are now coordinates a range of initiatives for WA artists with intellectual disability, including:
- An annual Art Award and Exhibition
- A select annual exhibition at a Perth art gallery
- A Disability and the Arts Network and respective annual Forum for artists, their family, friends and support workers, as well as arts workers and administrators
- A quarterly e-newsletter, detailing current news, opportunities and event
