Affiliate Excellence Award
The Affiliate Excellence Award is for a support worker who shines brightly in their role as a resident affiliate.

Mukesh Kumar – co-winner
Mukesh was nominated as a great example of someone who takes pride in his role as affiliate to Daniel at Penzance.
He keeps in great contact with Daniel’s family, running ideas past them and ensuring family visits are well organised and any issues are addressed. He always finds ways to keep the family connection strong, whether it’s supporting the family to choose gifts for Daniel or supporting Daniel to purchase gifts for his family.
Mukesh supported Daniel to overcome his anxiety around shaving his beard. With the support of PBS, Mukesh assisted Daniel to trial different devices and communication methods to ensure Daniel’s concerns were understood. Through this, Daniel had a breakthrough and, with Mukesh’s support, was able to trim his beard without any anxiety.
Mukesh consistently supports Daniel to build on new and existing skills, always willing to make the effort to try out new things to find what works for Daniel. Mukesh is consistent in his support for Daniel, day in day out.

Shinil provides outstanding for Colleen at Rosella, always looking out for new activities and especially new music to be added onto Colleens iPad!
His ability to help new team members to understand and communicate effectively with Colleen is excellent. Not only is he extremely informative and patient, he updates and implements new procedures, goals and activities consistently and thoroughly.
Shinil has a great knowledge of Colleen’s needs and it skilled at planning. He is attentive to Colleen’s changing needs and identifies additional supports needed as she ages and slows down.He enjoys taking Colleen swimming each week, and always reports back how much Colleen loves the water. He’s happy to work with the physio and put his hand up to support Colleen in the pool too. He’s in close touch with Colleen’s mother, Hilary, and keeps her updated on Colleen’s achievements and goals.
Shinil makes sure Colleen is always smartly dressed and has beautiful clothing, jewellery and perfume – whether she’s at home or in the community. He puts a lot of thought into his affiliate role and it clearly shows.
Creating a Good Life Award
The Creating a Good Life Award is for supporting residents to achieve valued roles in society.
Adrian Layos
Brad is a regular in the Nulsen Friday Update. Adrian, who is Brad’s affiliate, is recognised as the driving force behind Brad’s new-found zest for life.
At the start of the year, Brad preferred to spend much of his day in his room and wasn’t working towards many goals. Now, 10 months later and with Adrian’s support, Brad has busy and varied schedule that can only be admired!
He regularly attends the gym for workouts, gets stuck into the gardening and upkeep of the home, goes to Bunnings regularly, gets involved in food shopping and meal prep, and tries out new activities like animal attractions and arcade games! And, of course, the boys have been loving getting out to the pub on a Sunday arvo for good old roast lunch!
Any chance something comes up, Adrian advocates for Brad to go.
There’s such a noticeable difference in Brad, he is smiling more and chatting about his activities. He’s more social and happy to spend more time out and about. Adrian’s approach is also rubbing off on his colleagues, who follow his lead and support Brad to do similar activities.
Adrian has supported Brad to achieve many valued roles: Head gardener, gym-goer, local pub-goer, shopper, cook and more. He also continues to be a great son and father, with Adrian organising for Brad to see his family more on their farm and attend his son’s footy games.
