The Nulsen Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding work and dedication of people across our organisation.
In the third round, we want to celebrate two outstanding nominations.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Thomas and Sarah for their commitment to supporting people at Nulsen – you are well-deserved awardees!
Both winners will receive:
- A certificate
- A $200 gift card
- A paid day off on their birthday!
Additionally, this will put them in running for the Nulsen Excellence Award, which will be presented at the end of this year.
Creating a Good Life Award | R3
The Creating a Good Life Award is for supporting residents to achieve valued social roles in their community.
Thomas Robertson
Thomas, also known as Tom by his friends and teammates, is a dedicated and highly respected support worker who consistently goes above and beyond to support residents at Bardie to live meaningful and independent lives.
Being a strong advocate for residents, Tom encourages each resident to have choice, control, and active participation in their everyday life. Whether it’s supporting them to ride their trikes around the neighbourhood, visiting local cafes of their choice, attending events, or enjoying activities at the local park, he helps residents become visible, valued, and included members of their community.
Outside of the community, Tom also encourages residents to be independent where possible, whether it’s handing over their own Medicare card at appointments, moving independently in their wheelchair, participating in menu planning, putting away clothing, watering herbs in the garden, helping with household tasks, or making choices about what they would like to watch or listen to. His patient and respectful approach has empowered residents at Bardie to build confidence in themselves while going about their daily lives.
Beyond his direct support, Tom maintains excellent communication with families, keeping them informed through clear and thoughtful updates. He also takes great care in planning and organising outings and special events, ensuring residents have everything they need to enjoy themselves.
Tom’s commitment to creating opportunities, fostering independence, and advocating for the residents at Bardie makes him truly deserving of recognition in receiving the Creating a Good Life Award. ⭐
Good Process Award
The Good Process Award is for teams or individuals who consistently demonstrate outstanding documentation and processes.
Sarah Moritz
Sarah has demonstrated exceptional leadership in process improvement, documentation, and quality assurance, creating practical and sustainable solutions that have strengthened both resident outcomes and staff capability across Nulsen.
Through her work in the severe dysphagia space, Sarah identified an opportunity to improve existing training processes and took the initiative to develop an innovative, structured solution. By partnering with SpaceDraft, she helped design and implement an individualised training system that enables Speech Pathologist-developed dysphagia training to be delivered on demand. This initiative has enhanced staff knowledge, improved resident safety, and provided a scalable and cost-effective training model that remains responsive to evolving clinical needs.
Sarah has also led significant improvements to oral hygiene processes for residents with dysphagia. By reviewing existing practices and identifying inconsistencies, she developed a more structured and comprehensive approach that incorporates routine oral hygiene reviews, dental appointment monitoring, and access to information about suitable dental providers.
Across both initiative, Sarah has shown attention to detail, strong process design skills, and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement for the team. Her work and ability to identify gaps, and develop practical solutions, has reduced risk, strengthened compliance, improved documentation standards, and enhanced the quality and consistency of care provided to residents. Her work truly exemplifies the principles of the Good Process Award 🌟
