Get to know one of our amazing RSMs

Hello, people call me Kate, and I am a Residential Services Manager (RSM) at Nulsen. I came to Australia about 10 years ago and have since mastered the English language while settling down here!

Before Nulsen, I worked in a variety of roles, primarily in nursing and aged care. This experience of working closely with people in a care environment was great preparation for my current role.

Truthfully, there’s no such thing as a ‘typical day’ as an RSM. In fact, that’s one of the things I love most about it – no two days are the same!

Most mornings started with me checking my calendar to see where the day will take me, whether it’s visiting a home, working from the office, or meeting with a resident’s family.

I’m responsible for supporting our incredible support workers and maintaining strong relationships with residents and their families, and the community. For me, the key to success is all about communication!

I make sure families are kept in the loop and know that they can reach me anytime for things related to their loved ones. I also strive to create a sense of safety and reassurance for our support workers, so they know I’m always here to help. If everyone’s happy, I’m happy.

One of the challenges that comes with a RSM is timing. Sometimes illness hits and I’m suddenly short on staff for a home; other times, I need to be in two places at once! But we always get through the tough times together. That’s where teamwork shines. We don’t just support residents and each other individually; we do it together as a team.

My personal goal is not to be just a manager, but a leader who truly supports my team as we support people in their homes. I love working at Nulsen because of the people and our culture where everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and be happy.
